Employment and Education Unit
The E & E unit co-ordinates information and clerical tasks associated with the employment/education program. The tasks involve keeping statistics of members working and studying, upkeep of member’s employment files, operating funding database, job searching, collating information on educational faculties such as TAFE and university.
This month we are pleased to announce the commencement of three new Transitional Employment placements with two at the Salvation Army and another one at Jackpot Noodle. We are also looking forward to the recommencement of our TE with Ritchie’s IGA at their new store at Carindale. But watch with space as their maybe more good news to follow.
With regard to Transitional Employment there will be a vacancy at Aker Solutions in August and vacancies in September with Jerendine and Somerset Villas. So if you are at all interested in employment please speak with your chosen staff or one of unit staff. It is important that you are on our employment program before signing up for TE, so don’t delay. To those who have started TE this month, congratulations we wish you all the very best.
As a result of our planning day and our self study we have started a member tutor program where members and staff have volunteered their time and their skills to assist members currently studying. Please look for the new display board located next to the Supported Employment display board to see who has put their hand up to help.
Change has been a major factor is our unit and we have been toying with the idea of having two Employment and Education dinners out a month as opposed to just one. This is only a proposal at this stage and we are looking to have them on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, so let us know what you think. We are really hoping more people will want to attend if we hold them more regularly.
We have given our meeting boards a makeover in the hope of streamlining our tasks further and established a new work to do system that is a huge improvement on our random cork board.
Lastly, we have been playing host to training colleagues from Toowoomba, Canefields and Kapok Clubhouses. It has been great sharing our enthusiasm with Dane, Mary, Tobata and Julie, as well as exchanging ideas and having them become a part of our extended Clubhouse family.
