Education

To many people with a mental illness, furthering their education seems impossible given the day to day struggles that they face. With proper support it is possible for them to further their education, whether it be improving their literacy and numeracy skills or studying at TAFE or University. Stepping Stone Clubhouse offers a number of supports to assist those wishing to further their education.

To get into study Stepping Stone will help you any of the following:

Decide what course you want to do
Find all relevant information about the course
With enrolment, applications and other paperwork
Find out what Centrelink payments you are entitled to
Get in touch with the disability support services at your place of study
Get extra support from the school, TAFE or University
Explain your needs and illness to your teacher
Transport you to the school for enrolment, interviews, etc
Find your way around the school

We can provide a lot of other support too, such as coming to your first class and helping you meet the people in the course.

To support you while you are studying Stepping Stone can help you:

Help to get to your course and access public transport
Attend classes with you and help you learn to take notes
Access support from disability services at school, TAFE or Uni
Explain your needs and illness to your teacher
Use the computers at Stepping Stone Clubhouse
Plan your study time and assignments
Understand assignment requirements
Proof read assignments
Negotiate extensions, special requirements and support
Meet with you to discuss any problems you may be having

We can offer other assistance too depending on what you need. Every person is different and their support needs with education are unique, so we are committed to working with members to identify an education support plan to suit their specific needs.
